HP ENVY 14 Review
The baby of the second generation HP portfolio of premium mobile ENVY arrived at the bank SlashGear, and we must admit that it is a very attractive machine. Packing a 14.5-inch screen, Intel Core i5 and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5830 graphics, this may sound a bit like a MacBook Pro, but fortunately, HP has also extended the solid build quality. But good looks are enough users of the Company’s reliance Ween?

While envy 14 The series begins with i3 Core processors, our Special Review Unit Intel Core i5-450 dual-core coupled to 4GB of DDR3 memory and a 500GB hard drive Graphics includes integrated Intel HD chipset and dedicated ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 1GB GDDR5 memory its own engine 14.5 inch 1600 x 900 pixels.
Connectivity, meanwhile, WiFi b / g / n, Bluetooth, HDMI, and a trio of USB 2.0 ports (including a duplicate of one eSATA). There are also a Mini DisplayPort, Gigabit Ethernet, a multi-format memory card floppy and a slot-load DVD (no optional Blu-ray, unfortunately). OS is Windows 7, but also HP splash a considerable amount of third party applications and bloatware 14 envy: as Adobe Elements various applications (including Photoshop Elements), CyberLink DVD Suite, Corel Roxio backup and various applications, are testing Office 2010, Norton Security and others. To be honest, we would do better to view these essays and links offered single or grouped on DVD instead of loading, we seem to spend the first hour with a new system to wipe out unwanted applications.

HP Beats Audio surprise ending is a collaboration with the company best known for his helmet technology, which is presented as a studio-quality. This is part of an attempt to lift 14 to the morass of mid-range phones envy, with the backlit keyboard and a large multitouch trackpad chiclet State. This is certainly not difficult to see where the multiple comparisons MacBook Pro is, but it is also interesting to note that even an Apple machine cost $ 1,899 compared to $ 1289.99 for this HP.
We compared the HP 1914 with envy Geek Bench, a test synthesis processor and memory. The notebook scored 4830, slightly lower than the Lenovo IdeaPad Y460, the Intel Core i5 520m and the same amount of RAM. We then turned to PCMark for a broader perspective on the overall capabilities of the HP, she received PCMark 6427, with particular strength in music (6433), productivity (5517) and games (5482) categories.
In practical terms, the 14 ENVY works surprisingly well, with Core i5 certainly enough for everyday multitasking. We comfortably multitask between multiple browser windows, media playback and IM in the background, while the ATI graphics card to the HP make games. Video editing, also appears well below capacity ENVY 14 years, but when the sound of the fan under load is significant. On the positive side, we have not noticed the excessive levels of heat through the alloy chassis, so all fan activity is obviously something useful.
The keyboard offers chiclet some of the best response to this side of a MacBook, while the oversized trackpad is precise and accurate. Meanwhile, the audio quality is a revelation for a laptop, there are only two speakers, but the performance is stronger than many of the common multi-portable speakers we’ve tested. Fortunately – for playing media – the desire to display 14, our review unit to follow, has more resolution of 1600 x 900 “Radiance Infinity” group instead of the standard 1366 x 768 and is bright and net. Shame is not an HP drive, slot-loading Blu-ray offer, at least as an option, so that neither would the reading panel supporting Full HD, HDMI output lets you connect an HDTV.
Standard battery pack Li-Ion 8-cells is estimated at a maximum of six hours with dedicated graphics and up to eight on the integrated Intel chipset HD. Disconnect the power adapter and 14 ENVY automatically returns to the low power option. We managed just under 4.5hrs of navigation, audio and instant messaging using the Intel Graphics HD with the ATI force, which decreased to 3.5 hours more, because, when active game like this, he also pushed under the mark of 3:00.

As a package, we are impressed by the 14 envy. Machine Apple offers without doubt the battery life longer, but the HP throws in a wider choice of ports and a lower price. The alloy body burns may not be everyone’s taste, but it is very well built and the metal looks much more impressive than in pictures. Although it is a bit thicker than the MacBook Pro – 1.1 cm 0.9 cm drawbacks – it is also lighter at 5.25 pounds versus 5.6 pounds of Cupertino.
If Apple upgrade cycle is relatively quiet afford, HP was forced to participate in an ecosystem much more rapid movement of notebook buyers are spoiled, and also offer discounts on the price. Envy 14 can be seen as an attempt by HP to one class, which would allow them a bit more breath to get but they are not short on veranderde the buyer in the process. Additional Apple goes on the more pleasant elements trim – AC Adapter for HP is not the finesse and the magnetic connector on the MacBook Pro, and harbors ENVY 14 excellent corner edges of the chassis, instead of feeling punched by a monohull – but we expect many buyers prefer the money to the bank. It is a question of balance, and HP did well with her, Blu-ray is the obvious omission, but generally provides a 14 hp ENVY mix of performance, style and quality. [Via SlashGear]
